Delhi Police Files Cancellation Report in Minor Wrestler’s Case, Next Hearing Set for July 4

15-06-2023 : In the case involving the former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and a minor wrestler, the Delhi Police has filed a cancellation report in the Delhi Patiala House Court. The next hearing in the case has been scheduled for July 4. A cancellation report is typically filed when there is a lack of corroborative evidence to support the charges. Atul Srivastava, the Special Public Prosecutor, confirmed the filing of the final report in the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) case and mentioned the upcoming hearing date.

The controversy surrounding this case began when the father of the minor wrestler claimed on a television channel last week that he had “corrected” his statement and admitted to filing a false complaint against Brij Bhushan Singh out of anger. This revelation cast doubt on the validity of the accusations made against Singh.

Subsequently, Olympian Bajrang Punia revealed that the father of the minor girl had expressed being under immense pressure and shared that the entire family was struggling with depression. This statement shed light on the mental and emotional toll the case had taken on the family.

Punia further emphasized that if the chargesheet in the complaint filed by the wrestlers was not submitted by June 15, as previously assured by the government, the wrestlers would escalate their protest to a larger scale. This suggests that the wrestlers involved in the case were seeking justice and a timely resolution.

The filing of a cancellation report by the Delhi Police indicates that they were unable to find sufficient evidence to support the charges against Brij Bhushan Singh in the POCSO case. This development could potentially have significant implications for the future course of the legal proceedings.

The next hearing on July 4 will be crucial in determining the direction of the case. It will provide an opportunity for the court to evaluate the cancellation report filed by the Delhi Police and decide whether to proceed with the charges or dismiss the case.

The case has garnered significant attention within the wrestling community and the public at large. The outcome of the next hearing on July 4 will be eagerly awaited, as it will shed light on the future trajectory of the legal proceedings and determine whether the charges against Brij Bhushan Singh will be pursued or dropped.
