New Delhi, Dec 15: Dense fog severely disrupted flight operations at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on Monday, leading to the cancellation of over 60 flights and diversion of five others, officials said.
Airport operator Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) said flight operations continued to be impacted due to poor visibility conditions. In a post on X shortly after 10 am, DIAL said its ground teams were working closely with airlines and other stakeholders to assist passengers and ensure smooth movement across terminals.
An airport official confirmed that 61 flights had been cancelled and five diverted so far, while more than 250 flights were delayed.
Budget carrier IndiGo said low visibility caused by dense fog had severely affected operations at Delhi and several airports across northern India. “As flight operations are adjusted to prevailing weather conditions, some services may face delays, while a few may be proactively cancelled to prioritise safety and reduce extended waiting times for passengers,” the airline said in a statement.
IndiGo added that its teams were closely monitoring the situation in coordination with airport authorities and that advisories were being issued to passengers to minimise inconvenience.
Delhi airport, the country’s busiest aviation hub, handles nearly 1,300 flight movements daily.
