Devyani Rana Takes 5,267-Vote Lead for BJP in Nagrota Bypoll

BJP candidate ahead by 5,267 votes as counting progresses in Jammu

Jammu, Nov 14: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Devyani Rana continued to maintain a decisive lead of 5,267 votes over Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) nominee Harsh Dev Singh as counting progressed for the Nagrota assembly bypoll on Friday.

By the end of the third round, the BJP had secured 11,581 votes, while the JKNPP candidate followed with 4,280 votes. National Conference candidate Shamim Begum stood third with 2,464 votes.

Devyani Rana daughter of late BJP MLA Devender Rana, whose passing necessitated the by election has held a steady lead from the outset of counting.

The Nagrota constituency, which voted on November 11, recorded an impressive turnout of over 75 per cent, reflecting high public participation in the bypoll.
