14-06-2023 : The Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh of Jammu and Kashmir has taken significant steps to provide welfare relief and support to various individuals associated with the police force. With a focus on aiding the families of martyred, deceased, and retired police personnel, as well as Special Police Officers (SPOs), the DGP has sanctioned a total of Rs 23.95 lakh as Welfare Relief. Additionally, he has approved a scholarship and special reward amounting to over Rs. 5.98 lakh for the benefit of 72 wards of police personnel.
To alleviate the financial burdens faced by the Next of Kin (NoK) of martyred police personnel and SPOs, the DGP has sanctioned welfare relief amounting to Rs 9.85 lakhs. The financial assistance, ranging from Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 50,000, is granted from the J&K Police Pariwar Fund. This measure aims to provide much-needed support to the families who have suffered the loss of their loved ones in the line of duty.
Furthermore, the DGP has sanctioned welfare relief totaling Rs. 14.10 lakh for retired policemen and NoK of deceased police personnel. This relief is aimed at supporting self-treatment or treatment of their dependents, funding the marriage expenses of their children, and alleviating financial distress. The welfare relief has been allocated from the Retired Policemen Welfare Fund, demonstrating the commitment to providing assistance and care to those who have dedicated their lives to serving the community.
In addition to the welfare relief, the DGP has granted scholarships and special rewards amounting to over Rs. 5.98 lakh for the benefit of 72 wards of martyred, deceased, and serving police personnel as well as SPOs. A scholarship worth Rs 4.51 lakh has been sanctioned for 20 wards of police martyrs and 36 wards of deceased police personnel. These scholarships cover various levels of education, from primary to higher education, and have been allocated for the academic year 2022-2023. The funds for these scholarships have been provided from the Central Police Welfare Fund and Central Police Education Fund, emphasizing the importance placed on education and nurturing the future of the police force.
Moreover, meritorious scholarships worth Rs. 1.17 lakh have been sanctioned for 13 exceptional wards of serving police personnel who have achieved 80% and above marks in their graduation/post-graduation examinations during the academic session of 2022. These scholarships have been granted from the Central Police Welfare Fund, recognizing and supporting academic excellence.
Additionally, as a gesture of appreciation, special rewards of Rs. 10,000 each, accompanied by a Commendation Certificate Class-1st, have been sanctioned from the J&K Police Pariwar Fund. These rewards have been bestowed upon three wards of serving SPOs who have successfully qualified the Competitive Examination (BOPEE) during the year 2022-23, further encouraging their dedication and hard work.
