‘Dhurandhar’ OTT Release Triggers Backlash Over Cuts and Muted Dialogues

Ranveer Singh’s Thriller Sparks Criticism on Netflix for Censorship and Shortened Runtime

Mumbai, Jan 30: Ranveer Singh’s action thriller Dhurandhar has made its Netflix debut after a successful theatrical run, but the OTT release has triggered widespread criticism from viewers over censorship and edits.

The December 2025 release features Ranveer Singh alongside R Madhavan, Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, and Arjun Rampal, and follows a high stakes Intelligence Bureau mission inspired by real life events, including the IC-814 hijacking and the 2001 Parliament attack.

Soon after streaming began, social media was flooded with complaints about muted dialogues, censored language, and the removal of nearly ten minutes of footage, despite the film’s ‘A’ certification. Viewers questioned the logic of censoring adult rated content on a platform primarily accessed by mature audiences.

One user commented, “You certify the film as A, but you have muted and censored words. Everyone here is over 18, there’s no meaning in watching a film filled with cuts. It takes away the raw, natural vibe.” Others voiced concern that the trimmed runtime affected the narrative flow.

Despite the backlash, Dhurandhar continues to perform strongly in its eighth week since release. The film has also sparked broader debates on streaming content standards and regulations in India.

A sequel to the blockbuster is scheduled for theatrical release on March 19, set to clash with Yash’s Toxic: A Fairytale for Grownups.
