DMDK’s Premalatha Vijayakanth Confirms Ongoing Alliance Discussions Ahead of Tamil Nadu Elections

DMDK signals alliance decisions for Tamil Nadu polls will be made closer to election dates

Chennai, Jan 24: Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) General Secretary Premalatha Vijayakanth on Saturday stated that alliance discussions for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections are still underway, with final decisions expected at the appropriate time.

Speaking to reporters, Vijayakanth clarified that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has not yet finalised its alliances in the state, and talks with several parties are ongoing. She emphasised that political equations remain fluid and alliances could shift based on evolving circumstances.

“It’s not too late yet. Election dates have not been announced. Only after February 20 will the dates be declared, so we have sufficient time. DMDK is like our child, and as a mother, I must make the right decision. At the right time, an alliance will be formed, and it will be appreciated by everyone,” she said.

Addressing speculation about a possible tie up with the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), Vijayakanth insisted that the party’s position will be announced openly once finalized. “There is no secrecy. We are transparent about our approach and will make the alliance public when the decision is taken,” she added.

The Tamil Nadu Assembly elections are expected in the first half of this year, with the NDA and opposition parties, including actor turned politician Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), aiming to challenge the ruling DMK-led alliance.
