DMK Minister Under ED Probe: Son Holds Meeting With Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman

Arun Nehru submits memorandums on consumer protection and PACL scam, days after ED seeks FIR in Rs 1,020 crore case

New Delhi, Dec 10: The son of Tamil Nadu Minister KN Nehru and DMK MP Arun Nehru met Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in New Delhi, just days after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) moved to register a First Information Report (FIR) in a Rs 1,020 crore corruption case linked to his father.

The meeting comes amid an ongoing investigation into alleged bribery and tender-fixing in the Municipal Administration and Water Supply (MAWS) Department. During the discussion, Arun Nehru submitted a memorandum urging urgent amendments to consumer protection laws for credit rating agencies, emphasizing fairness, transparency, and accountability for borrowers nationwide.

He also presented a separate memorandum seeking expedited relief for financial losses suffered by thousands of families, particularly women in Duraiyur, who were affected by the PACL Limited scam.

KN Nehru has rejected the allegations, claiming he is being targeted by the ED to tarnish his reputation. According to the agency, 7.5–10 per cent of the contract value for MAWS projects was allegedly collected as party funds by associates of the DMK minister. The ED described this as the “tip of the iceberg,” warning that failure to register an FIR could amount to knowingly assisting the accused.

Responding to the probe, Nehru stated, “I will face it as per law,” adding that the agency has joined forces with opposition parties to undermine the DMK government’s achievements.

This development underscores growing political sensitivity around high-profile corruption cases in Tamil Nadu and the increasing scrutiny of ruling party ministers.
