Dogra Degree College Highlights Sustainable Fisheries Through Film Screening and Interactive Dialogue

World Fisheries Day Observed with Focus on Blue Economy, Conservation and Youth Participation

Bari Brahmana, 21/11/2025: Dogra Degree College (Autonomous) solemnly observed World Fisheries Day by organizing an insightful documentary screening and interactive awareness session aimed at highlighting the importance of sustainable fisheries, aquatic ecosystem conservation, and the socio-economic role of fishing communities.

Dr. Bela Thakur, Principal, Dogra Degree College, emphasized the global significance of fisheries in ensuring food security, livelihood generation, and ecological balance. In her address, she stressed the need for youth participation in promoting responsible fishing practices and preserving India’s vast aquatic biodiversity.

The documentary, titled “India’s blue transformation: Strengthening value addition in seafood experts,” provided a comprehensive overview of marine and inland fisheries, challenges posed by overfishing, climate change, and habitat degradation, and showcased inspiring examples of community-led conservation success stories. The screening was followed by an engaging discussion where students shared reflections on sustainable aquaculture, riverine health, and innovative fish farming technologies. Government initiatives like the Blue Revolution and PM Matsya Sampada Yojana were discussed, and students were encouraged to explore career paths in marine sciences, aquaculture, and environmental management.

The session concluded with a vote of thanks appreciating the management, teaching faculty, documentary presenters, and enthusiastic students for making the programme a success. Dogra Degree College continues its commitment to environmental literacy by conducting such initiatives that foster awareness, responsibility, and sustainable practices among young learners.
