Jammu, 10.05.23: Dalit OBC Minority (DOM) organised a press conference today at their office, Resham Ghar Colony Jammu. The agenda of the conference was to raise various issues faced by all sections of the society. A few major along these are the violence occurring in Manipur and the Wrestlers protest happening in Delhi.
R K Kalsotra, Chairperson DOM and state president All India Confederation of SC/ST/OBC Organisations, said that there are a lot of burning issues all across the country and the union government is choosing to ignore all of them. There is a huge concern about the conflict arises in Manipur due to dissatisfaction on the high order between tribal community of Manipur (KuKi,Naga) and non ST community (Matti) and protests become violent in the peaceful state of North East, moreover Govt has imposed curfew and given shoot at site order to control the violence, many houses and religious places are gutted under the fire. Kalsotra has demanded the Government to come up with diplomatic effort, dialogues and peaceful negotiation to stop the violence and bring back the peace in the beautiful state of Manipur.
Kalsotra added that the wider problem of dilution of the ST status in Manipur and similarly in J&K is a problem for those who would be actually benefiting from ST reservation. The government has started reservation for EWS and hence such people should be added in that category and not ST. Similarly, the protest of the wrestlers especially by the women show how the gender parity works in our country and how much the government is neglecting them.
There’s a wider policy of divide and rule by the government. Moreover, there is also an active attempt to cater to certain audience for the vote bank.
Mr. Ashu Peter Mattoo State President, All J&K Christian Sabha has also showed the resentment on the issue and urged the Govt. to save the precious lives of all communal faiths as in violence many worship places such as Churches have been set on fire and vandalised , many people are living under fear & are displaced from their houses, we demand the government of Manipur and central Govt. to protect the lives and property of innocent people, it is essential for law enforcement agencies to prioritize the safety and security the worship places and take necessary measures to prevent further incident of this nature, as the faith of the one community adjoining with it and to come up with peaceful solution of the issues, to spread religious tolerance, respect and understanding among the all faith people, and Govt. should ensure to treat everyone equally regardless of their faith to return back peace and harmony.
Mr Kuldeep Singh Sikh Missionary highlighted that Indian Wrestlers’ protests are ongoing protests by top Indian wrestlers against the alleged sexual harassment of female wrestlers by the BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh during his tenure as the president of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI). The protestors are demanding arrest of Brij Bhushan and investigation of the allegations. The accused is from the ruling party of the country and the protestors accuse the government of blocking all their efforts for an investigation into his alleged crimes.
Dr Sameer Ch, State President, NSYF(National SC ST OBC Students & Youth Front) said that the religious intolerance is increasing lately in the country. The right to freedom of speech and religion are being challenged Time and again posing a threat to not just the diversity of India but also the constitution at large.
