Dominant India Crush Pakistan by Six Wickets, Near Champions Trophy Semifinals

Dubai, Feb 23: India outclassed arch-rivals Pakistan in a commanding six-wicket victory in the Champions Trophy on Sunday, all but securing their place in the tournament’s semifinals. The comprehensive win highlighted India’s dominance with both bat and ball, leaving Pakistan on the brink of elimination.

After electing to bowl first, India restricted Pakistan to a modest 241 all out in 49.4 overs. Saud Shakeel fought hard with a 62 off 76 balls, while captain Mohammad Rizwan contributed a slow 46 off 77 deliveries. Khushdil Shah provided some late resistance with a 38-run cameo, but Pakistan’s innings never gained significant momentum.

India’s bowling attack was clinical, with left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav (3/40) leading the charge, while all-rounder Hardik Pandya (2/31) made crucial breakthroughs, including the dismissals of Babar Azam (23) and Shakeel.

Chasing 242, India’s top order made light work of the target, reaching 244/4 in 42.3 overs. Virat Kohli anchored the innings with an unbeaten 100 off 111 balls, showcasing his class under pressure. Shubman Gill (46 off 52) provided early impetus, while Shreyas Iyer (56 off 67) played a steady supporting role.

Skipper Rohit Sharma (20 off 15) entertained with a few aggressive strokes before falling to a sharp delivery from Shaheen Afridi. However, the early loss did little to deter India’s chase, as Kohli’s century ensured a comfortable finish.

With this win, India remains unbeaten in the tournament with two victories in as many games, placing them in a strong position for the semifinals. Meanwhile, Pakistan faces near-certain elimination, having suffered back-to-back losses in the group stage.
