Donald Trump Calls NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani a “Nice Guy” Despite Criticizing His Policies

US President’s State of the Union Speech Highlights Contrasting Views on Policy and Character

US, Feb 25 : President Donald Trump on Wednesday referenced New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani during his State of the Union address, describing him as a “nice guy” while criticizing his policies.

Speaking from the podium, Trump said, “Bad policy, but nice guy,” referring to Mamdani, whom he also labeled a “communist.” He added that he communicates with the mayor frequently despite their ideological differences.

Trump highlighted a contrast between Mamdani’s administrative requirements, such as needing two forms of ID and a Social Security card for snow shoveling jobs, and voter registration rules, arguing against what he described as lax identification for voting.

The remarks came as Trump urged Congress to pass the SAVE America Act, which would mandate proof of citizenship and photo ID for federal elections. The address marked the longest State of the Union speech recorded since 1964, according to The American Presidency Project.
