DPAP Chairperson Ghulam Nabi Azad Stresses Joint Responsibility in the Fight Against Militancy

Jammu, 11-10-2023 : Ghulam Nabi Azad, the chairperson of the Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP), has voiced his concerns over the resurgence of terror incidents in the Jammu and Kashmir region over the last year and a half. Azad emphasized the need for a collective and united effort to combat this renewed threat.

While speaking with reporters during a meeting with various delegations, Azad acknowledged that the security situation had improved over the past five years. However, he expressed his apprehensions regarding recent incidents, especially in the Rajouri sector and the Kokernag area in Kashmir.

Azad emphasized that it appears that militancy is attempting to resurface in the region, and he called for a joint effort involving the people of Jammu and Kashmir, the government, and politicians to counter this threat. He stressed that the responsibility to address this challenge does not rest solely with the government but is a collective duty.

In response to a question about the recent dharna (demonstration) organized by the main opposition parties in Jammu and Kashmir, including the National Conference, the Congress, and the PDP, for the restoration of democratic and constitutional rights in the Union Territory, Azad pointed out that some of the leaders who had called for the demonstration were not present.

This reference appeared to allude to the absence of NC chief Farooq Abdullah and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti during the dharna. Azad suggested that their absence raised questions about the seriousness of the demonstration.

Additionally, Azad highlighted the importance of addressing the issues and grievances of the Gujjar-Bakarwal community and urged the government to look into their concerns.
