Drone Suspected Narcotics Packet Recovered Along Jammu Border

BSF and police launch joint investigation after suspected heroin consignment found in Bishnah farming field

JAMMU, May 20: Security forces on Wednesday recovered a suspected narcotics consignment believed to have been dropped by a drone in the border region of Jammu district, officials said.

The suspicious packet was discovered in Bahadurpur Panchayat of the Bishnah sector after a local farmer noticed an unusual object while ploughing his agricultural land. The discovery immediately raised concerns of possible cross border smuggling activity in the sensitive border belt.

Following the alert, personnel from the Border Security Force (BSF) and Jammu Police reached the location and secured the entire area to prevent any tampering with the recovered material. A detailed search operation was also carried out in nearby fields as part of precautionary measures.

Officials said the packet was taken into custody and later sent for scientific examination. A team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) was called to inspect the contents and collect evidence from the site.

Preliminary assessment suggests the seized substance could be heroin, though officials said the exact nature and quantity of the material will be confirmed only after forensic analysis.

Security agencies have intensified surveillance in the border districts amid repeated attempts by smugglers to use drones for transporting narcotics, weapons and other contraband from across the border.

Investigators are now examining the possible route and origin of the suspected drone movement while further inquiry into the incident is underway.
