New Delhi, Oct 28: In a startling development, the Delhi University acid attack case has taken a dramatic U-turn, with investigators revealing that the alleged victim and her father may have fabricated the entire incident to frame a rival family.
According to police sources, Aqeel Khan the father of the 20 year old woman who claimed she was attacked with acid near Delhi’s Laxmi Bai College confessed to orchestrating the incident with his daughter. Their alleged motive was to implicate the husband and relatives of a woman who had recently filed a rape case against Khan.
Investigators said CCTV footage from the day of the alleged attack contradicted the woman’s claims. The video reportedly shows no trace of the accused individuals or the alleged acid attack, leading police to conclude that the woman used toilet cleaner from her home to self-inflict burns and stage the assault.
Revenge Behind the Fake Attack
As per reports, the woman who accused Khan of rape had worked at his factory between 2021 and 2024. In her complaint filed just two days before the alleged acid attack, she accused Khan of sexual assault and blackmail, claiming he threatened to leak her private photos and videos.
When summoned for questioning, Khan avoided appearing before investigators, instead sending his lawyer and a religious preacher. He was later traced and arrested from Sangam Vihar.
CCTV Footage Exposes Inconsistencies
Police officials said footage from Sunday morning showed the DU student leaving home on a two-wheeler with her brother before boarding an e-rickshaw in Ashok Vihar. None of the three alleged attackers—identified as Jitendra, Ishan, and Arman in the FIR were visible in the footage. Moreover, forensic teams found no acid residue at the scene, and doctors are still assessing the nature of the burns.
Ongoing Property Dispute
Adding another layer to the case, the mother of the accused brothers, Shabnam, claimed that she too was attacked with acid in 2018 by Khan’s relatives. She alleged that the current incident was a continuation of their long-running property dispute in Mangolpuri, which remains sub judice.
Police Investigation Continues
Delhi Police are now probing the full extent of the alleged conspiracy and examining electronic and forensic evidence. Officials say both Khan and his daughter could face serious charges for filing a false complaint and misleading investigators in what has now become one of the most shocking examples of fabricated crimes in recent years.
