Ladakh, 19-12-2023 : On Tuesday, the Zanskar region in Ladakh’s Kargil district experienced an earthquake measuring 3.4 on the Richter Scale, as reported by the National Center for Seismology (NCS). The seismic event occurred at approximately 10:31 am, with a depth of 10 km. The epicenter was pinpointed at Latitude 33.33 and Longitude 76.85. The NCS shared the details, stating, “Earthquake of Magnitude: 3.4, Occurred on 19-12-2023, 10:31:22 IST, Lat: 33.33 & Long: 76.85, Depth: 10 Km, Region: Zanskar, Kargil, Ladakh, India.” Remarkably, this marks the second earthquake to hit the Kargil region within a span of 24 hours.
The previous quake, measuring 3.8 on the Richter Scale, occurred on Monday evening, with its epicenter located at Latitude 33.34 and Longitude 76.78, at a depth of 10 km. Further details on these seismic activities are awaited.
