Kolkata: The Election Commission has approved the transfer and posting of returning officers for the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections, marking a key step in poll preparations. The reshuffle includes several constituencies, notably Bhabanipur, which is represented by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
According to officials, the commission gave its nod to the state government’s proposal for reassigning officers, with a detailed list issued as part of the directive. The move is aimed at ensuring administrative readiness and smooth conduct of the electoral process.
The poll body has instructed the newly appointed officers to report to their respective constituencies by March 24 evening. Their presence is required for a training session scheduled the following day, which is considered crucial for managing election duties efficiently.
The directive, issued by Election Commission Secretary Sujeet Kumar Mishra, forms part of broader logistical arrangements ahead of the polls.
Elections for the 294 member West Bengal Assembly are scheduled to be held in two phases on April 23 and April 29, with counting of votes set for May 4.
