New Delhi, Sep 18 : The Union Ministry of Education has launched a six-month certificate bridge course aimed at strengthening the teaching skills of primary school educators holding Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) qualifications.
The programme is being implemented through the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) and is designed for eligible in service teachers who require additional preparation for teaching at the primary level. The course focuses on child-centred, inclusive and developmentally appropriate teaching practices.
The programme includes six theory courses, online contact classes and school based practical experience. Participants will receive training intended to improve their understanding of primary-level pedagogy and classroom practices.
The initiative follows a 2024 Supreme Court judgment that enabled the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) to create a bridge programme for certain in-service teachers appointed during the period covered by the relevant NCTE notification.
The Education Ministry said the programme is intended to address the pedagogical requirements of primary education and support teachers in developing professional and reflective teaching practices.
The launch is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen teacher preparation and align classroom instruction with the learning and developmental needs of younger students.
