Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jan 18: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Saturday said caste discrimination can be eliminated from society only when caste is first removed from people’s minds.
Speaking at a Jan Sangoshthi organised here as part of the RSS centenary celebrations, Bhagwat noted that caste was originally linked to occupation and work but gradually became deeply entrenched in social life, leading to discrimination.
“To end this discrimination, caste must be eradicated from the mind. If this is done with honesty, caste-based discrimination can be eliminated within 10 to 12 years,” Bhagwat said, while appealing to people to introspect and change their outlook.
Prant Sanghchalak Anil Bhalerao was also present on the stage during the interaction.
Responding to questions from the audience, Bhagwat said the RSS works towards nation building through individual character development and seeks to take India to its highest potential along with society.
“The Sangh is not an organisation born out of reaction, nor is it in competition with anyone. It does not want to grow big itself but wants to make society strong and united,” he said.
Bhagwat added that those who wish to understand the functioning and philosophy of the RSS should visit its shakhas and engage directly with its activities.
