SRINAGAR, Jan 17: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Crime Branch Kashmir has uncovered a major employment fraud, registering a case against a former police employee accused of cheating job aspirants out of nearly ₹23 lakh.
According to an official statement, the accused allegedly promised government jobs and issued forged appointment orders, identity cards, licenses, and fake police and CID verification reports to mislead victims.
The case came to light following a written complaint submitted to the EOW, Srinagar, by multiple complainants who claimed they were systematically defrauded. Preliminary investigations by the EOW found the allegations to be prima facie substantiated, confirming that the accused had misappropriated significant sums under the guise of providing government employment.
A formal case has been registered at the Police Station Economic Offences Wing, Srinagar, under Sections 420, 467, 468, and 471 of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC). Further investigation is ongoing to trace the full extent of the racket and identify additional victims.
The EOW has urged the public to remain vigilant against fraudulent job schemes and report any suspicious activity to law enforcement authorities.
