New Delhi, Oct 11 : AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami’s (EPS) remarks hinting at a possible alliance with actor Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) have stirred political controversy, drawing sharp criticism from AMMK leader TTV Dhinakaran and Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) chief Thirumavalavan.
Speculation about the alliance gained momentum after a few TVK flags were spotted at an AIADMK rally in Komarapalayam two days ago. Interpreting it as a sign of political rapprochement, EPS declared, “This heralds a new beginning. There is a resurgence and an alliance is in the offing. This will make Chief Minister M.K. Stalin sleepless.”
The comments, however, sparked backlash from rivals. Dhinakaran, the nephew of V.K. Sasikala, slammed EPS, accusing him of “another act of betrayal.” He alleged that the AIADMK leader was ready to abandon the BJP-led NDA in favor of a tie-up with Vijay.
“EPS is prepared to accept Vijay’s leadership and dump the BJP. By ensuring that a few supporters wave TVK flags, he’s creating a false narrative. If Vijay insists on leading any alliance, does that mean AIADMK has become so weak as to accept it?” Dhinakaran said in Thiruvannamalai.
He further alleged that EPS had ignored genuine efforts from Delhi leaders to unify AIADMK factions, adding, “If Vijay agrees to an alliance, EPS will immediately desert the BJP. Under him, AIADMK has become EDMK.”
Meanwhile, VCK chief and DMK ally Thirumavalavan dismissed EPS’s comments as “illogical,” pointing out that Vijay had publicly termed the BJP an ideological adversary.
“Since Vijay has declared BJP as TVK’s ideological enemy, how can he join hands with the AIADMK, which is part of the BJP-led NDA? If EPS chooses to dump the BJP and ally with Vijay, it will further damage his credibility,” Thirumavalavan said, while rejecting speculation that VCK was drifting toward the TVK.
The controversy comes amid ongoing political realignments in Tamil Nadu, with Vijay’s political debut already reshaping state politics.
