Farooq Abdullah Discharged From Hospital After Week-Long Treatment in Srinagar

SRINAGAR, Oct 5: National Conference president and former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Dr. Farooq Abdullah, was discharged from a private hospital here on Sunday after receiving medical treatment for nearly a week. The 87-year-old veteran leader, who had been admitted following an abdominal infection, is reported to be recovering well, party leaders confirmed.

“Farooq Sahib has been discharged from the hospital today. His condition has improved significantly, and he has made a satisfactory recovery,” a senior National Conference leader said, expressing gratitude to the medical team for their dedicated care and to well-wishers for their prayers and support.

Dr. Abdullah, one of the most prominent political figures in Jammu and Kashmir, was admitted to the hospital last Tuesday after developing an abdominal infection that required close medical attention and inpatient care. He had previously undergone a kidney transplant in December 2014, and doctors decided on hospitalisation as a precautionary measure given his medical history and advanced age.

Party sources said the veteran leader is now recuperating at home under medical supervision and is expected to gradually resume his public engagements once fully recovered. His discharge has come as a relief to his supporters and party members, many of whom had been expressing concern and wishing him a speedy recovery.

Dr. Abdullah, known for his decades-long contribution to Jammu and Kashmir’s political and developmental landscape, continues to play a key role in shaping the region’s political discourse. His improved health is expected to boost party activities in the run-up to crucial political developments in the Union Territory.
