Srinagar, Nov 13: National Conference President and former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah stated that the recent increase in encounters between militants and security forces in Jammu and Kashmir will not lead to any significant change in the region’s situation. Speaking to reporters in Budgam district, Abdullah emphasized that these confrontations have been a long-standing part of the region’s landscape and are likely to continue without fundamentally altering the ground reality. “Encounters have happened before and will happen again in Jammu and Kashmir. This won’t make any difference,” he remarked.
Abdullah’s comments come amid heightened activity between security forces and militants across various parts of Kashmir, which has drawn public attention and raised security concerns. However, Abdullah, drawing on his extensive political experience in the region, expressed a skeptical view of any lasting impact from this rise in encounters.
The veteran politician had traveled to Budgam to attend a court hearing related to a 2017 case. During his visit, he also voiced the need for improved judicial infrastructure in the district. Abdullah advocated for the construction of a new, modern court building, highlighting the inadequacy of the existing facilities to serve the district’s population effectively. “We will urge the government to construct a new court equipped with modern amenities to benefit the people,” he said, adding that National Conference MP Justice (Retd.) Hasnain Masoodi would oversee efforts to ensure this development project moves forward.
