FIFA Honours Donald Trump With Its First Peace Prize Before World Cup Draw

Award announced at 2026 World Cup draw in Washington DC; FIFA praises Trump’s “extraordinary actions to promote peace and unity.”

US, Dec 06 : FIFA on Friday named US President Donald Trump as the first-ever winner of the newly created FIFA Peace Prize, unveiling the honour during the draw ceremony for the 2026 FIFA Men’s World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Receiving the award in Washington, DC, Trump declared that “the world is a safer place now,” as FIFA prepared to distribute teams into their groups for the upcoming tournament.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino, considered one of Trump’s closest sporting allies, presented the honour at the Kennedy Centre for the Performing Arts, praising the US President for “exceptional and extraordinary actions to promote peace and unity around the world.”

Infantino’s Praise and Why Trump Was Chosen

Infantino said the award recognises “a leader that cares about the people,” as he handed Trump a certificate, a gold medal and a gold trophy shaped like hands lifting the globe, mirroring the iconic FIFA World Cup design.

FIFA said the Peace Prize is meant for “individuals who help unite people in peace through unwavering commitment and special actions.”

Trump had been widely expected to receive the inaugural prize due to Infantino’s strong backing.

Trump’s Pursuit of Global Peace Recognition

Trump has long campaigned for the Nobel Peace Prize, though he was not nominated this year. In recent years, he has repeatedly highlighted what he describes as successful global peace initiatives, including claimed interventions in:

Israel–Palestine conflict

India–Pakistan tensions following India’s Operation Sindoor, launched after a terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir

India, however, has consistently denied that any ceasefire during Operation Sindoor was the result of American involvement.
