FIH Pro League: Angad Bir Singh Eager to Return to Indian Squad with Renewed Confidence

After nearly a year away, young forward Angad Bir Singh targets strong impact in Hobart leg against top-ranked teams

India, Feb 18 : Indian men’s hockey forward Angad Bir Singh has made a much-anticipated return to the national squad, being named in the 24 member team for the Hobart leg of the FIH Pro League 2025-26. The 23 year old attacker last played for the senior side during the previous season against Ireland in Bhubaneswar, marking his first international appearance in nearly a year.

The upcoming fixtures in Australia will also be Angad’s first overseas assignment with the Indian team. Speaking about the selection, he described it as a “special opportunity” and an emotional moment. “Coming back to the national team after a year is a completely different feeling. Going straight into an international assignment makes it even more motivating,” he said.

Focusing on preparation, Angad shared that the team has trained specifically to tackle opponents like Australia and Spain, emphasising man-to-man defensive styles. He highlighted the squad’s focus on fitness, match readiness, and maintaining a positive mindset despite past setbacks. “Everyone has tough phases, but our target is to win all four matches here. We are concentrating on performance rather than past results,” he added.

During his time away from the senior team, Angad remained engaged with the national training group in Bengaluru and played for India A, working on key skills such as speed and attacking instincts. His recent success in the Hockey India League 2025-26 with Vedanta Kalinga Lancers, where he lifted the trophy, also contributed to his recall. “The HIL allowed me to play high-quality matches, learn from experienced international players, and improve areas highlighted by coaches,” he said.

Angad prefers playing as a striker or winger to leverage his pace and attacking instincts. For the upcoming matches, he aims to earn penalty corners, minimise mistakes, and gain valuable international experience. He also credits senior teammates and coaches for guidance, particularly in professional habits, match preparation, and mental resilience.

Excited to face top ranked teams abroad, Angad emphasised commitment and determination as decisive factors. “It’s 11 versus 11 on the field. Whoever shows more commitment and determination will win. Our approach is simple  stay confident, play our game, and aim to win all four matches,” he concluded.
