29-09-2023 : The Gujarat police have taken action against Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, the leader of the banned organization Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), by registering an FIR in response to his threat to transform the Cricket World Cup, scheduled to begin on October 5 at the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad, into a “World Terror Cup.” This alarming development was revealed by an official statement on Friday.
According to the FIR filed by the cybercrime branch of the Ahmedabad police, individuals across the country received Pannun’s threatening message via a pre-recorded voice message originating from a foreign phone number. Sub-inspector H N Prajapati of the cybercrime branch filed the complaint, stating that many people had reported receiving this threatening message from the phone number +447418343648 through various channels.
The pre-recorded message conveyed the ominous message that October 5 would not mark the beginning of the Cricket World Cup but the commencement of the “World Terror Cup.” The message also claimed that Sikhs for Justice intended to protest in Ahmedabad with Khalistani flags and promised retribution for the assassination of Shaheed Nijjar. The message was attributed to Gurpatwant Singh Pannun.
The FIR underlines that Gurpatwant Singh Pannun is designated as a terrorist by the Government of India and is operating an organization called Sikhs for Justice from a foreign location. It accuses Pannun of attempting to sow fear, incite discord between Sikhs and other communities in the country, and engage in acts of terror within India. The FIR also notes Pannun’s previous involvement in such activities, particularly on the social media platform Twitter.
The Cricket World Cup 2023 is scheduled to commence at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi stadium on October 5. This threat from Pannun comes against the backdrop of a diplomatic dispute between India and Canada over the alleged assassination of designated terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar outside a Gurdwara in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada, on June 18.
