“FM to Kick Off Nationwide Awareness Campaign on Unclaimed Financial Assets from October 4”

“Aapki Poonji, Aapka Adhikaar” campaign aims to empower citizens to trace and claim unclaimed money across banks, insurance, and investment accounts.

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will inaugurate a three-month nationwide awareness campaign on October 4 in Gandhinagar, focusing on unclaimed financial assets. Titled “Aapki Poonji, Aapka Adhikaar (Your Money, Your Right),” the campaign will run from October to December and is organized by the Department of Financial Services (DFS) in collaboration with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI), Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), and the Investor Education and Protection Fund Authority (IEPFA).

Unclaimed financial assets—including bank deposits, insurance claims, dividends, shares, and mutual fund proceeds—often remain unclaimed due to lack of awareness, outdated details, or incomplete procedures. The campaign will provide citizens with on-the-spot guidance on how to locate their unclaimed assets, update records, and complete the claim process. Digital tools and step-by-step demonstrations will be showcased to simplify the process.

“The Government of India is committed to ensuring that every rupee saved by citizens can be rightfully claimed by them or their legal heirs. This campaign will encourage active participation, spread awareness, and strengthen financial inclusion. Citizens will be empowered with clear instructions, FAQs, and SOPs developed by the respective fund regulators,” the Ministry of Finance stated.

As part of the campaign, a special financial inclusion exhibition will be organized, featuring interactive stalls from banks, insurance providers, mutual funds, and pension institutions. The initiative seeks to make the claiming process simple, transparent, and accessible to all citizens.
