Foggy Mornings, Dry Days Ahead for Tamil Nadu Till February 12

Rising daytime temperatures expected as mist reduces visibility in several northern and western districts.

Tamil Nadu, Feb 09 : Several parts of Tamil Nadu are expected to experience moderate morning fog over the coming days, with the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) forecasting reduced visibility during early hours alongside largely dry weather conditions.

Misty conditions are predicted to persist until February 12 in northern and western districts, including Ranipet, Vellore, Tirupattur, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Salem, Erode, Dindigul, and the Nilgiris. The fog may disrupt road travel and routine commutes, prompting authorities to advise motorists especially those on highways and ghat stretches to exercise caution.

Light to moderate mist is also likely in and around Chennai, covering neighbouring districts such as Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu, and Kancheepuram. The city is expected to see partly cloudy skies, with patchy fog reported in isolated locations during dawn hours.

Despite the hazy mornings, the broader weather pattern across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal is set to remain stable, with no major rainfall anticipated through February 14. Meteorologists attribute the conditions to seasonal atmospheric stability typical for this time of year.

Daytime temperatures are projected to edge upward, with some regions likely to record a rise of 1–2 degrees Celsius by midweek, resulting in warmer afternoons. Experts note that clear daytime skies often contribute to higher temperatures, while cooler nights support fog formation.

Health officials have encouraged residents to remain hydrated and limit prolonged exposure to direct sunlight during peak afternoon periods. Extra care has been recommended for children, senior citizens, and outdoor workers.

Overall, the state is expected to see a pattern of foggy starts followed by relatively warm and clear days in the week ahead.
