- Jammu industrialists await rescheduled meeting with Centre on policy support and incentives
Jammu, 01-06-2026: The Federation of Industries Jammu (FOIJ) has expressed deep disappointment over the postponement of the crucial meeting that was scheduled to be held on May 30, 2026, under the chairmanship of the Hon’ble Union Home Minister, Shri Amit Shah. The meeting was expected to address several pressing issues concerning the industrial sector of the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir.
The industrial fraternity of Jammu had pinned great hopes on this meeting, anticipating meaningful discussions on the challenges currently confronting the manufacturing and industrial sectors in the region. Over the past few years, industries in Jammu have been facing multiple difficulties, including rising operational costs, shrinking market competitiveness, inadequate incentives compared to neighboring states, and various policy-related concerns that have adversely impacted industrial growth and investment.
The Federation stated that the postponement has caused disappointment among industrialists who were expecting positive interventions from the Government of India to revive industrial activity and restore confidence among entrepreneurs and investors. The industrial sector continues to play a vital role in generating employment opportunities, promoting economic development, and strengthening the overall economy of Jammu & Kashmir. Therefore, timely policy support and strategic interventions are essential to ensure its sustainability and growth.
FOIJ emphasized that the Government of India and the Union Territory Administration must take urgent and proactive measures to address the concerns of existing industrial units, many of which are struggling to maintain operations under challenging circumstances. The Federation reiterated that safeguarding existing industries is as important as attracting new investments, as both are critical for balanced and inclusive economic development.
Sh. Virendra Jain, Chairman, Federation of Industries Jammu further expressed hope that the Government of India and the UT Government will soon announce a comprehensive and special industrial package for Jammu & Kashmir. Such a package should include incentives for existing industrial units, financial support mechanisms, infrastructure development initiatives, ease-of-doing-business reforms, and targeted schemes to encourage entrepreneurship among the youth of the region.
According to the Federation, a well-structured industrial package would not only help existing industries survive and expand but would also create an enabling environment for new industrial ventures. This, in turn, would generate employment opportunities, reduce unemployment among educated youth, attract private investment, and accelerate the economic transformation of Jammu & Kashmir.
The Federation remains optimistic that the postponed meeting will be rescheduled at the earliest possible date and that the concerns of the industrial sector will receive the attention and priority they deserve. FOIJ reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with both the Government of India and the Union Territory Administration to promote industrial growth, economic prosperity, and sustainable development in Jammu & Kashmir.
