On the 18th anniversary of India’s memorable 2007 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup win, former cricketers Yuvraj Singh, Irfan Pathan, and Robin Uthappa took to social media to relive the glorious triumph that united the nation.
In the thrilling final in Johannesburg, India defeated Pakistan by five runs under MS Dhoni’s captaincy, etching history as the inaugural champions of the T20 format. Misbah-ul-Haq’s late heroics nearly turned the game around, but Joginder Sharma’s composed final over sealed India’s victory.
Pathan, the player of the match for his decisive spell of 3/16, shared throwback photos on X, recalling: “What a day it was back in 2007. Where our World Cup dream was fulfilled. Beating Pakistan on regular basis started there in T20 cricket.”
Uthappa remembered the occasion as magical, writing: “September 24th, 2007 a day etched in my memory forever. The belief, unity, and energy we shared still feels alive today.”
Yuvraj Singh, who lit up the tournament with his iconic six sixes in an over, shared trophy celebration pictures on Instagram, captioning: “Some memories never fade. This is definitely one of them! A proud moment that united a nation in joy and pride.”
In the final, Gautam Gambhir top-scored with a gritty 75 off 54 balls, while Rohit Sharma’s late fireworks powered India to 157/5. The bowlers maintained pressure throughout, and despite Misbah-ul-Haq’s valiant knock, India emerged triumphant, sparking nationwide celebrations.
The 2007 victory not only marked the beginning of India’s dominance in T20 cricket but also gave birth to a new cricketing era under MS Dhoni’s leadership.
