SRINAGAR, Oct 4: Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and National Conference president Dr. Farooq Abdullah was admitted to a hospital in Srinagar on Saturday after developing a health complication, party sources confirmed. The 87-year-old veteran leader, who has been unwell for the past few days, was taken to a private hospital earlier this week following an abdominal infection.
According to senior party leaders, Abdullah’s condition has shown steady improvement since receiving medical care, and doctors are closely monitoring his recovery. “He was not keeping well over the past few days, but his condition is now improving. He is likely to be discharged later today or tomorrow,” a party leader said, expressing optimism about his health.
Known as one of the tallest political figures of Jammu and Kashmir, Farooq Abdullah has had a decades-long career in public life, serving multiple terms as chief minister and remaining deeply engaged in regional and national politics. News of his hospitalisation has prompted a wave of concern and well-wishes from political leaders, party workers, and citizens across the Union Territory, many of whom have expressed hope for his swift recovery.
The National Conference leadership said it was in constant touch with doctors and Abdullah’s family, adding that his health condition is stable and improving. If his progress continues as expected, he may return home within the next 24 hours.
