16-06-2023 : The Economic Offences Wing, Srinagar, a part of the Crime Branch of Kashmir, has filed a chargesheet against the former Director and an Administrative Officer (Policy) of SKIMS Soura, alleging the illegal appointment of a person to the post of Professor of Surgical Oncology.
According to a statement issued by the Economic Offences Wing, the chargesheet was produced in response to Case FIR No. 08/2019 under Sections 418, 420, 466, 511 RPC r/w Section 5(2) PC Act, registered at the Police Station Crime Branch Kashmir. The chargesheet was presented before the Hon’ble Court of Additional Special Judge Anti-Corruption Kashmir.
The case revolves around a written complaint received by the Crime Branch Kashmir, alleging that the former Director of SKIMS Soura had unlawfully and deceitfully made an ineligible individual eligible for the position of Professor of Surgical Oncology. It was further claimed that the selection process for the post, which had already been stayed by the Hon’ble High Court of J&K, was fraudulently re-advertised by the Director to facilitate the selection of an ineligible candidate.
In response to the information received, a Preliminary Verification was initiated by the Crime Branch Kashmir, leading to the registration of the case. The investigation has reportedly established and proven offenses punishable under Sections 418, 420, 466, 511 RPC r/w Section 5(2) PC Act against the accused individuals.
The chargesheet has been presented before the Hon’ble Court of Additional Special Judge Anti-Corruption Kashmir for judicial determination. The legal proceedings will now determine the outcome of the case and whether the accused individuals will be held accountable for the alleged abuse of powers and official position.
