Srinagar, Feb 6: Jammu and Kashmir continues to experience below-normal night temperatures, with all weather stations in the Kashmir Valley reporting sub-zero minimums. The Meteorological Department (MeT) has forecast largely dry weather across the Union Territory until February 16, with only isolated light snow possible at higher altitudes.
The MeT noted a chance of light snowfall in select higher reaches of north and central Kashmir on the evening of February 6. February 7 and 8 are expected to remain dry, while isolated rain or snow may occur at higher altitudes on the night of February 9. Cloudy conditions with scattered light precipitation are possible on February 10 and 11, followed by dry conditions on February 12 and 13. Light snow may return to isolated high-altitude areas on February 14, while February 15 and 16 are likely to remain partly cloudy without significant precipitation.
Night temperatures in Kashmir are 1-2°C below normal in most areas, while some locations in Jammu are also recording similar deficits. Sonamarg in Ganderbal district was the coldest in the Valley at minus 8.3°C, followed by Gulmarg at minus 7.8°C and Pahalgam at minus 7.5°C. Srinagar recorded a low of minus 2.5°C. In the Jammu division, Bhaderwah reported the coldest temperature at minus 1.5°C.
The MeT has urged residents to remain cautious as the cold spell continues, with temperatures staying below seasonal averages across the region.
