Fuel Prices Rise Again: Petrol, Diesel Become Costlier by 90 Paise Per Litre

Second fuel price revision within a week pushes petrol near ₹100 mark in Delhi, adding pressure on household and transport expenses.

NEW DELHI, May 19: In another blow to consumers, oil marketing companies on Tuesday raised petrol and diesel prices across the country, marking the second fuel rate increase within a week. The latest revision has pushed retail fuel costs significantly higher in major metropolitan cities, intensifying concerns over rising transportation and daily living expenses.

Following the fresh revision, petrol in Delhi is now being sold at ₹98.64 per litre, an increase of 87 paise from the earlier price of ₹97.77 per litre. Diesel prices in the national capital also climbed by 91 paise, taking the retail rate to ₹91.58 per litre.

The latest increase comes just days after fuel prices were raised by ₹3 per litre on Friday, indicating continued upward pressure in the domestic fuel market.

In Mumbai, petrol prices jumped by 91 paise to ₹107.59 per litre, while diesel rates rose by 94 paise to ₹94.08 per litre. Kolkata witnessed the sharpest rise in petrol prices among the metros, with rates increasing by 96 paise to ₹109.70 per litre. Diesel in the city became costlier by 94 paise and is now retailing at ₹96.07 per litre.

Chennai also recorded a notable increase, where petrol prices climbed by 82 paise to ₹104.49 per litre. Diesel rates in the southern metro rose by 86 paise to reach ₹96.11 per litre.

The continued petrol diesel price hike is expected to impact transportation costs and could lead to higher prices of essential commodities in the coming days. Consumers and businesses alike are closely monitoring fuel price trends amid concerns over inflationary pressure and increased operational expenses.

Industry officials stated that domestic fuel prices are influenced by global crude oil trends, exchange rate fluctuations and international market conditions. The recent revisions reflect ongoing volatility in global energy markets.

With two consecutive increases in less than a week, the latest hike has once again brought fuel affordability into focus, especially for daily commuters and commercial transport operators across the country.
