Jammu, January 30: Congress observed the martyrdom day of father of nation Mahatma Gandhi today in a simple function at PCC HQ Shahidi Chowk Jammu. President JKPCC Shri Tariq Hameed Karra presided over the function and was attended by Working President Shri Raman Bhalla. DCC President & Ex-Minister Yogesh Sawhney, Ex-MLCs Ved Mahajan(I/C HQ, Th. Balbir Singh, Th Manmohan Singh and T.S.Tony (DDC) besides IYC Incharge for J&K S. Maan Singh, frontal wings of PCC, DCC, Blocks, Wards and others.
Paying homage to the Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi on his martyrdom, PCC Chief Shri Tariq Hameed Karra said that Mahatma Gandhi lived a life full of principles and led the freedom movement against a mighty ruler based on principles of Ahinsa, Truthfulness and ultimately achieved it. He believed more in practical implementation of his principles and philosophy in his day to day life and activities rather than only intellectual approach to all issues.
He said that the philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi is becoming more relevant with every passing day. The entire World tries to learn from his life and principles. His philosophy holds the key to peace and religious harmony in the World. He taught non-violence and tolerance to deal with all issues confronting the humanity. The countrymen should follow his principles to have peace & harmony.
Cautioning the people and the party workers about the attempt to torpedo the philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi by certain forces who glorify his killer, Shri Karra said that such a path is a threat to the secular fabric of this nation, as secularism is the basic strength of our pluralistic society. He asked partymen to take a pledge to spread and follow Gandhi ji’s philosophy and principles in day to day life.
Speaking on the occasion PCC Working President Shri Raman Bhalla said that the philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi is relevant for all times to come and even more relevant today when an atmosphere of conflicts and violence prevails in different parts of the world. He said that Mahatma Gandhi led the nation to freedom through non-violence against the mighty British rulers. He said that India is known allover the world by the philosophy of Non-Violence and tolerance, since India as a pluralistic society has proved itself to be the most successful democracy in the world.
