India, Dec 08 ; Former India head coach Gary Kirsten has been appointed as a consultant for the Namibian men’s cricket team ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026, scheduled in India and Sri Lanka in February-March.
Kirsten will work alongside head coach Craig Williams, offering technical expertise and strategic guidance to help the team enhance performance and preparation.
“It is indeed a privilege to work with Cricket Namibia. I am impressed with their dedication and determination to create a high-performance cricket environment. Their state of the art stadium reflects their commitment to competing with the best cricketing nations. I look forward to contributing to their preparation for the T20 World Cup next February,” Kirsten said.
Namibia has qualified for the last three T20 World Cups (2021, 2022, and 2024) and is aiming to continue its strong performance. The country is also one of the hosts for the 2027 50-over World Cup, alongside South Africa and Zimbabwe.
Kirsten, a former South African international, played 101 Tests and 185 ODIs, amassing 7,289 Test runs and 6,798 ODI runs. After retirement, he became a globally respected coach, leading India to their historic 2011 ICC World Cup victory and the number one Test ranking, and later coaching South Africa and franchise teams in the Indian Premier League. Most recently, he served as Head Coach of Pakistan’s men’s team in 2024.
With his extensive coaching experience, Kirsten is expected to provide Namibia with a competitive edge as they prepare for the 2026 T20 World Cup.
