30-08-2023 : Department of Physical Education & Sports of Govt. College of Education, Jammu celebrated National Sports Day of India in collaboration with National Service Scheme in tribute to the legendary hockey player Major Dhyan Chand to evoke the spirit of championship under the patronage of Prof. Aekta Gupta, Principal, GCOE. Principal GCOE, gave brief introduction of Major Dhyan Chand and said that if you want to be healthy and fit then you should do regular exercise and must include sports in your daily routine. Sports are important for the physical and mental well-being of humans. Individuals who play sports remain healthy. India has produced many sporting legends like PT Usha, also known as Udanpari, Sachin Tendulkar, also known as Master Blaster, and Major Dhyan Chand, also known as ‘Hockey Wizard’. The event was organized under the leadership of Ramandeep Kralia, Physical Director. Physical education department organized the Intra College tug of war for the Men and Women and students to inculcate the feeling of true sportsmanship among the students and enhance their physical skills .Students will participate in it with great enthusiasm and zeal. Some more fun activities also doing by the students.
Students were seen playing with true team spirit. The teachers also participated in the sports activities. The students learn a lot about true sportsmanship and the value of playing games. Around 100 students participated in the event and at last all the winners were awarded with medal and certificates by Principal Prof. Aekta gupta and Dean School of Education Dr Zubair Kales.
In the Men Tug of War competition Bhagat Singh Team defeat Major Dhyan Chand team by 2-1. In the Women section Manikaranika team defeat Saniya Nahwal team by 2-0. The programme was attended by the students and faculty members which included Prof. Anju Bala, Prof Satish Sharma, Prof. Rajinder Kour, Prof Radhika Mahajan, Prof. Anuradha seth,Prof. Anuradha Choudhary, Prof Rubina Yasmeen, Prof. Shubhra Jamwal, Pof. Shapia Shameem, Prof. Sarita Dogra, prof. Shalini Rana,Prof. Neeraj Verma, Prof. Sushma, Prof. Seema Kumari along with other non teaching staff.
