Jammu, 26-03-2024 : In an impassioned speech delivered to party workers gathered in Kathua, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Chairman of the DPAP, articulated the pressing need for fostering unity and solidarity among people. He urged voters to throw their weight behind the cause of development and progress, while also emphasizing the imperative of thwarting entities that seek to sow division along religious lines. Azad did not mince words in criticizing political parties that have, in his view, failed to adequately address the myriad issues confronting the region of Jammu and Kashmir.
Azad’s remarks came on the heels of his filing nomination papers for the position of Vice Chairman of DPAP and Lok Sabha Candidate from Udhampur-Doda, G M Saroori. During his address, Azad posed a poignant question: Why should religious considerations factor into politics, when even in the realm of medical care, doctors treat patients impartially, regardless of religion? He implored voters to prioritize candidates who are committed to championing public issues in Parliament, rather than succumbing to divisive rhetoric.
Furthermore, Azad stressed the pivotal role of a robust campaign in ensuring the success of the party candidate. He vowed to eradicate religious discrimination within his government and lamented the silence of both regional parties and the Congress on matters concerning Jammu and Kashmir during parliamentary sessions. Azad reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to advocating for the concerns of the people, a commitment he claims to have upheld during his tenure as Leader of the Opposition.
Azad made concrete pledges, promising to enact legislation guaranteeing land and job protection for the residents of Jammu and Kashmir. Drawing on historical precedent, he lauded Maharaja Hari Singh as a visionary leader who enacted laws safeguarding the interests of his people. Azad expressed dismay over the current trend of hiring outsiders over local youth, resulting in widespread unemployment.
Highlighting past efforts to secure statehood for Jammu and Kashmir in Parliament, Azad called for continued perseverance until this goal is achieved. G M Saroori, the DPAP candidate, echoed Azad’s sentiments, stressing the importance of electing an MP dedicated to progress and advocating for the interests of the people.
Drawing on his track record as a three-time MLA, Saroori pledged unwavering commitment to addressing public issues in Parliament and working tirelessly for the welfare of the people. He emphasized the need to emulate Azad’s leadership as both Chief Minister and Union Minister, prioritizing the development of essential infrastructure such as schools, colleges, universities, and roads.
