Ghulam Nabi Azad Urges Immediate Restoration of Statehood to Jammu and Kashmir Post-Elections: A Call for Political Accountability

Srinagar, 04-03-2024 : DPAP chairman Ghulam Nabi Azad made a passionate plea for the immediate restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, stressing that it should be prioritized immediately after the assembly elections in the Union territory. Speaking at a rally in the Aishmuqam area of Anantnag district, Azad reiterated the promises made by the Prime Minister and the Home Minister in Parliament regarding the reinstatement of statehood.

While acknowledging the government’s commitment to this, Azad expressed concern over the lack of a specified timeframe for its implementation, urging for swift action post-elections. He emphasized the urgency of restoring statehood without delay, noting the potential prolonged wait if postponed until after the elections. As Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Kashmir approached, Azad highlighted the overdue nature of the visit and called upon him to address critical infrastructure needs. He specifically advocated for the establishment of two thermal power projects in Kashmir and Jammu regions to tackle energy deficits and support initiatives like startups, crucial for addressing unemployment. Azad underscored the critical importance of electricity in the region’s development, citing it as a fundamental requirement for economic growth and prosperity.

Reflecting on the tenure of BJP rule in Jammu and Kashmir, Azad emphasized the pressing need to address the common issue of electricity shortages that he observed during his extensive visits across the region.
