Global Power Dynamics See Major Shift, Says Jaishankar

No single nation can impose its will today globalisation, technology and economic competition are reshaping power dynamics, says External Affairs Minister

Pune, Dec 20: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Saturday said the global economic and political pecking order has undergone a profound transformation, with multiple centres of power and influence emerging across the world.

Addressing the 22nd convocation of Symbiosis International (Deemed University) in Pune, Jaishankar said that no country, regardless of its strength, is any longer capable of imposing its will on all global issues.

“The world today reflects natural competition among nations, and this competition creates its own balance,” he said, noting that global power is no longer concentrated in a single centre.

Jaishankar said the very idea of power has become increasingly complex, encompassing trade, energy, military strength, natural resources, technology and talent. “Global powers are no longer universal in their reach or influence,” he added.

Highlighting the impact of globalisation, the minister said it has fundamentally altered how nations think, work and engage with one another. He stressed that for a large economy like India to remain competitive, it must invest in robust, modern manufacturing aligned with technological advancements.

“Developing substantial and contemporary manufacturing capacity is essential if we are to keep pace with global technological change,” Jaishankar said.
