Global Tensions Rise, Gandhian Principles Offer Guidance: LG Sinha

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Highlights Relevance of Non-Violence, Truth, and Human Dignity

Jammu, Jan 30: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday said Mahatma Gandhi’s principles of non-violence, truth, and respect for human dignity remain vital in today’s world, amid global uncertainty, conflicts, and climate challenges.

Speaking at an event organised by the Gandhi Global Family, Sinha paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi and freedom fighters who followed the Gandhian path during India’s independence movement. He described the gathering at the historic venue as a symbol of peace and hope for Jammu and Kashmir, reflecting the enduring influence of Gandhian values across generations.

Sinha noted that the world is navigating a period of geopolitical tensions, social divisions, and economic shifts. He cited the recent finalisation of a major trade agreement between India and the European Union as an example of complex global negotiations.

“If war is brewing in one corner of the world and climate change is challenging humanity’s future, then the voice of Mahatma Gandhi gives strength in such times,” Sinha said. He added that Gandhi was not just a leader of the past but a guiding light for contemporary global challenges, with his vision of non-violence, truth, and self-determination remaining relevant today.

Quoting Gandhi’s writings in Harijan from March 16, 1947, Sinha highlighted his belief that while God is one, religions are many, likening them to a tree with countless leaves. He emphasised that Gandhi’s commitment to human dignity, equality, social justice, and youth empowerment provides a moral framework for addressing even the most difficult challenges.

“With courage and moral clarity, Gandhi chose the path of truth and self-determination, leaving principles that continue to guide humanity,” Sinha concluded.
