Goa, Dec 08 : Goa Police have intensified their investigation into the tragic fire at Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub in Arpora, issuing a Look Out Circular (LOC) against club owners Saurav and Gaurav Luthra. The move comes as police teams across India coordinate efforts to apprehend all individuals linked to the club’s operations, with Delhi authorities arresting the fifth accused, Bharat Kohli, who managed day-to-day activities at the venue.
The blaze, one of Goa’s deadliest in recent years, claimed 25 lives and left six injured, sparking widespread grief and outrage across the state. Rescue and forensic teams continue to examine the site to understand how the fire spread so rapidly and why escape was hindered.
Birch Owner Issues Condolence Statement
Saurabh Luthra, owner of Birch, released a statement expressing “profound grief” over the tragedy, describing it as a time of “irreparable sorrow and overwhelming distress.” The management assured families of victims and the injured of “every possible form of assistance, support, and cooperation,” emphasizing solidarity without commenting on the ongoing LOC or investigation.
Goa Government Orders Magisterial Probe
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced a magisterial inquiry into the incident, stressing strict action against anyone found violating fire safety norms. He confirmed the arrest of the nightclub’s general manager and the issuance of an arrest warrant for the owner. Sawant also instructed district authorities to expedite support for affected families and coordinate with hospitals treating the injured.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the tragedy, stating he had been in touch with the Chief Minister for updates and wished speedy recovery for the injured.
Investigation Continues as Victim Identification Progresses
Among the 25 victims, four were tourists and 14 were staff members, while seven identities remain unverified. Authorities are working diligently to track all individuals involved in the nightclub’s operations, signaling a rigorous crackdown on negligence and non-compliance with safety regulations.
