Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar celebrates World Breastfeeding Week

JAMMU, AUGUST 07: Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar, Jammu celebrated World Breastfeeding Week with active participation from doctors, nursing students, hospital staff, and members of the community.

Director Health Services Jammu Dr Abdul Hamid Zargar was the chief guest on the occasion. Medical Superintendent Dr Narinder Singh Bhatial was also present.

The hospital emphasised the importance of breastfeeding to patients and their attendants. The week-long programme began with an inauguration and awareness lectures delivered to students and patients in the OPD and Conference Hall.

Bed-to-bed training sessions were held to educate mothers and expectant mothers on best breastfeeding practices, aiming to ensure effective adoption and better health outcomes for both mothers and infants. Various interactive activities were conducted, including a poster-making competition, quiz, and an awareness rally in nearby areas. Nursing students also performed a Nukkad Natak (street play) within the hospital premises.

During the closing ceremony, Consultant Gynaecologist Dr Amandeep Kour Anand provided an overview of the week’s activities. The programme was anchored by Suhani Anand, IYCF Counsellor, and the vote of thanks was delivered by Dr Rajni Gupta, Consultant Gynaecologist.

The event was attended by doctors, nursing and hospital staff, and students from institutions such as B.R Medical College, Galaxy Paramedical College, A.V Institute of Nursing, Baba Budhan Ali Shah College of Nursing, IPHH College, and MMC College of Nursing.
