Govt Plans Overhaul of ‘Prasad’ Scheme: Update in Lok Sabha

Culture Ministry Announces Redesign of Pilgrimage Development Program in Lok Sabha

NEW DELHI, Dec 8: The Government is in the process of redesigning the Prasad (Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Augmentation Drive) scheme, aimed at promoting pilgrim tourism across India, the Lok Sabha was informed on Monday.

During Question Hour, Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said that over the past decade, 54 projects have been sanctioned under the scheme. He noted that the initiative is closely linked to the financial cycle, which is nearing completion, prompting the Ministry to initiate the revamp.

Launched in 2014-15, the Prasad scheme focuses on developing and revitalizing pilgrimage sites nationwide. It emphasizes improving tourist infrastructure, enhancing the experience for pilgrims, and supporting state proposed projects to strengthen religious tourism.

Officials said the redesign will incorporate lessons from past projects and align with current priorities to further boost pilgrim engagement and tourism development.
