Jammu, Mar 6: Senior BJP leader Kavinder Gupta on Friday expressed his gratitude to President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Home Minister Amit Shah after being appointed as the governor of Himachal Pradesh. Gupta described the new role as a “matter of great pride” and said he will serve the nation with dedication, impartiality, and commitment.
Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary congratulated Gupta, calling him a capable leader whose appointment will further highlight his contributions. “From now on, people will recognise his capabilities,” he said.
Gupta, 66, previously served as the lieutenant governor of Ladakh for over eight months before resigning on Thursday. He was appointed to that position on July 18, 2025, becoming the third LG of the Union Territory since its creation in August 2019.
A seasoned politician from Jammu, Gupta has held key positions including Deputy Chief Minister of the erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir state, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, and Mayor of Jammu. He thanked his colleagues and the central leadership for their continuous guidance and support during his tenure in Ladakh.
Vinai Kumar Saxena, former LG of Delhi, has been appointed as Gupta’s successor in Ladakh. Choudhary noted that Gupta’s elevation to Himachal Pradesh Governor is a proud moment for Jammu and Kashmir, calling him a “son of the soil” whose leadership will continue to inspire the region.
