Vijayadashmi, the festival celebrates the victory of good over evil. In some parts of the country, the festival is also called Dasara. Dusshera is marked on the 10th day of Navratri. There are many mythological stories related to the festival. According to one of the most believed story says, on Dussehra, Lord Rama killed the demon Ravana-king of Sri Lanka, who kidnapped Sita. On the other hand, Vijaydashmi is believed to be the day when Goddess Durga defeated Mahishasura. Idols of Goddess Durga are immersed in the river in order to bide her adieu and share Dussehra wishes with each other.
