Jammu, September 13, (HS) Expressing solidarity with the victims of the large scale devastation caused by landslides in various villages of Ramnagar constituency, Harsh Dev Singh, Chairman-JKNPP and former Minister lambasted the government for its abject failure in providing succor to the affected people. He said that massive landslides had washed away residential houses, agricultural fields, orchards, and standing crops in especially in the villages of Rasli Gaderan, Gandh Top of Tehsil Basantgarh with the concerned authorities acting as mute spectators with no action taken for relief or rehabilitation of the poor residents of the affected area. He said that over a dozen of houses, both Pacca and Kacha, had been reduced to debris in the said villages and agricultural fields and orchards got perished in the worst-hit catastrophe throwing the life of the poor farmers out of gear. He regretted that despite Rasli Gaderan having been declared as a model village under the ST scheme and its foundation stone also having been laid in 2015 with Rs 5 crore allocation, it was most unfortunate that not a single penny had been spent in the said village. B Department too had failed to ensure the construction of proper crossing and drainage and other protection works on the Gandh Top Road that led to waterlogging and sliding of the area resulting in large scale devastation in the said area. The govt’s apathy is squarely responsible for the tragedy, said Harsh.
