Chandigarh, Jan 24 : The Haryana unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday appointed ministers and senior party leaders as election in charges for the upcoming civic body polls, a day after the reservation of top posts in municipal institutions was confirmed.
The state government is preparing to conduct elections in seven urban local bodies, including three municipal corporations. Urban Local Bodies Minister Vipul Goel has been appointed as the overall in charge, while ministers Ranbir Gangwa and Krishan Lal Pawar have been given responsibility for the Ambala and Sonipat municipal corporations, respectively.
Vipul Goel will be assisted by former minister Kanwar Pal Gurjar, while Gangwa and Pawar will be supported by Archana Gupta and Jawhar Saini as co-observers during the election process.
For municipal councils and municipal committees, minister Gaurav Gautam has been named in-charge for the Rewari municipal council. Ministers Krishan Bedi, Arvind Sharma and Rajesh Nagar have been assigned responsibility for the Uklana, Sampla and Dharuhera municipal committee elections, respectively.
Party sources said that all four ministers overseeing municipal councils and committees will be assisted by senior BJP leaders as co-observers to supervise the entire electoral exercise.
