Jammu & Kashmir High Court directs all respondents to file responses within 10 days in PIL on unsafe meat sales.

Srinagar, Sep 17: The High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh on Wednesday commended the Inspectors General of Police (IGPs) of Kashmir and Jammu for their proactive measures against the sale of rotten and unsafe meat.

The Division Bench, comprising Chief Justice Arun Palli and Justice Rajnesh Oswal, was hearing Public Interest Litigation (PIL No. 9 of 2025) filed by Advocate Mir Umar, represented by Advocate Shafqat Nazir, with Senior Advocate Jehangir Iqbal Ganaie assisting as amicus curiae.

The Bench noted that police actions had led to visible improvements on the ground, including multiple seizures of unsafe food items and registration of FIRs against those selling meat unfit for consumption.

The court directed all respondents who have not yet filed their replies to submit complete responses within ten days, emphasizing that no further delays would be entertained. The matter is listed for further hearing thereafter.
