New Delhi, Apr 30: The India Meteorological Department has issued a fresh heatwave warning for several regions of northwest, central, and eastern India as temperatures continue to rise sharply during the final week of April.
According to weather officials, states including Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, and parts of Bihar are likely to witness prolonged periods of extreme heat over the next few days. Authorities have advised people to avoid direct sunlight during afternoon hours and remain hydrated.
Health departments across multiple states have activated emergency response systems in anticipation of heat-related illnesses. Hospitals have been instructed to keep additional beds ready for patients suffering from dehydration, heatstroke, and respiratory complications.
The IMD said urban areas may experience stronger heat stress due to concrete infrastructure and declining green cover. Experts also warned that rising electricity demand could place additional pressure on power supply networks.
Several state governments have issued advisories for schools, construction workers, and outdoor labourers. In some regions, school timings have been revised to protect students from afternoon heat exposure.
Climate scientists noted that India has been experiencing more frequent and intense heatwaves over the past decade due to changing climate patterns. Agricultural experts warned that prolonged high temperatures may also affect crop productivity and water availability in rural areas.
Authorities are encouraging residents to follow safety precautions, including avoiding strenuous outdoor activity, wearing light clothing, and consuming adequate fluids.
