Shimla, Sep 16: Heavy overnight rains wreaked havoc across Himachal Pradesh, triggering floods and landslides that killed three members of a family and caused widespread damage to infrastructure.
In Mandi district, a house collapsed in Boi panchayat of Sundernagar subdivision, burying five family members. Deputy Commissioner Apoorv Devgan confirmed that three bodies have been recovered, while two persons were rescued alive.
The rains also caused flooding in Son and Bharand drains in Dharampur, inundating the local bus stand and damaging over 20 buses, shops, pump houses, and a workshop. Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri shared on Facebook that Dharampur bus stand and HRTC property suffered extensive losses.
In Shimla, several vehicles were buried after a landslide near Himland, blocking the city’s main circular road and inconveniencing school-going children. Eyewitnesses recalled a “deafening sound” as trees and debris came crashing down around 1 am, forcing them to move their vehicles to safety.
Authorities have launched relief and clearance operations in the affected areas as the hill state continues to battle the impact of relentless rains.
